Satellite Internet vs. Mobile Internet: Which Is Better for RVs?

Posted on August 5, 2022

Getting reliable Internet anywhere in the country is a dilemma that many avid RV travelers face. Road trips often take RVers into highly remote or rural areas of America, where Internet availability is much more sparse. While RVers who stick close to cities and highly-populated areas may not need a rural Internet service provider, but those with a penchant for venturing off the beaten path should look into getting a satellite Internet service provider or RV mobile Internet service provider.

While both are among the best RV Internet options, there are a few factors that will determine whether satellite or mobile Internet is better for you. Satellite Internet providers such as Starlink have built a reputation on their ability to provide coverage anywhere in the world, their fast speed, and their ease of installation. However, there are a few downsides that might sway your opinion towards mobile Internet providers such as UbiFi.

Because of the inherent nature of satellite Internet, latency will likely be an issue at certain times. Internet signals have to travel a long distance between satellites in orbit and people’s homes, which means there will be delays that cause latency. If you plan on doing some online gaming or remote work in your RV, mobile providers like UbiFi may be a better option for you. Furthermore, UbiFi provides unlimited 4G rural Internet. If you don’t like data caps or overage fees mobile Internet providers will allow you to use data to your heart’s content. Mobile internet may not be as far reaching as satellite Internet, but it will serve you well in rural areas where cell towers abound.
