3 Web Design Tips for Startups

Posted on March 30, 2013

With several websites raising the bar for quality each year, it’s not optional anymore for startups to build websites of the same professional quality if they want to be taken seriously.

#1: KISS

The acronym KISS holds true for web design as it does for many other things in Life. Keep it simple stupid is what it means, and in terms of website design, it works just as well especially for startups that need a website on a budget.

In other words, keeping the design will not only ensure that you are able to stay within a budget but also will work just as well on both a 24 inch monitor as well as a smartphone.

#2: Invest in a professional web designer

Even if it does cost you a bit, ensure that you hire a professional web designer who knows the ropes even if you have to make him a co-founder. Don’t make the mistake of having someone who just knows the basics of web design to do a good job. The shabby and unprofessional work which saves you money will end up being your loss or worse still, a need to go back to the drawing board.

Places where you can find a web designer is Guru, Elance or Freelancer and at affordable rates as well.

#3: Your Website Design Should be Future-Proof

Given the fact that you will be spending a good amount of money on your startup’s website, ensure that the design lasts for as long as possible. For example, and where we currently stand, it’s a good idea to create a website that is both mobile and tablet friendly as well as for desktops.

Not only does this mean you will get your money’s worth but the site will pay for itself and more for every year it runs without flaws.

Tip of the Day

Hold volunteer positions in organizations. This is a great way to stay visible and give back to groups that have helped you.
